You will need to make arrangements for your mom to be escorted from one gate to the other by an agent. There is a fee involved and you may end up paying more than if you find a direct non-stop flight for her. Call up an airline, explain the problem and see what they will do or what the fee may be. They may not be able to provide you with someone as to a liability on their part. (If she needed a wheelchair and someone to push it that is one thing, but to have someone be responsible for watching her and making sure she doesn't harm herself or get lost, that is another set of liabilities)
